Florida Public Holidays
When hiring a car for your Florida or Orlando holiday its worth taking into consideration
some local peak times. The peak times usually revolve around public holidays and
generally mean that availability of vehicles becomes limited, especially from down
town offices. Most of the major Florida and Orlando rental locations such as Orlando
international airport (MCO) and Sanford Airport (SFB) will have more vehicles
available.
Banks, government offices, post offices, and many stores, restaurants, and museums
are closed on the following legal national holidays:
- January 1st (New Year's Day)
- The third Monday in January (Martin Luther King Day)
- The third Monday in February (Presidents' Day)
- The last Monday in May (Memorial Day)
- July 4th (Independence Day)
- The first Monday in September (Labor Day)
- The second Monday in October (Columbus Day)
- November 11th (Veterans Day/Armistice Day)
- The fourth Thursday in November (Thanksgiving Day)
- December 25th (Christmas Day)
- The Tuesday after the first Monday in November is Election Day, a federal government
holiday in presidential-election years (held every 4 years)
The general advice when booking a vehicle for collection on or during any of the
above dates is to get in early to avoid disappointment.
